Pastor Shayne is a second career pastor having spent over 20 years as a counselor, mostly in public mental health agencies. He was called to pastoral ministry in 2007 and attended seminary at Virginia Union University. Prior to that Pastor Shayne received a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth, and a BA in Psychology and Music from the University of Mary Washington. His first appointment was a small two-point charge in 2011. Pastor Shayne was ordained as an elder in the United Methodist Church in 2015.
Music is very important for Pastor Shayne. He is proficient at the cello and enjoys playing with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra. Playing guitar is also a pastime for Pastor Shayne. Being a pastor is a sedentary profession, so Pastor Shayne keeps in shape by attending Tae Kwon Do classes. He was excited to earn his first-degree black belt in April of 2024.
Finally, Pastor Shayne enjoys studying Spanish, and is going on his second mission trip with Friends of Barnabas in February 2025. Pastor Shayne is happy to be serving Christ UMC and looks forward to seeing how God can bless our neighbors through us.
